Ranganayaka sagar to be inaugurated today

The inauguration of Ranganayaka Sagar, which paves and stores the Godavari water from the Kaleshwaram Project, will be inaugurated today. Telangana state government has bankrolled Rs 3300 crores on this project . About 220 km from Kaleshwaram, the irrigation water reaches Ranganayaka Sagar. Against this backdrop, the project is scheduled to open on Friday.

Built with a capacity of three thousand metric cubic feet, the processor can store 1.5 TMC of water at any time. A total of 1.10 lakh acres will be irrigated at this reservoir. The Ranganayakasagar Reservoir was built on an 8.6km bund with a capacity of 3 TMCs in the Chandlapur – Periyakodur suburb of Chikkodur.

88.25 TMC of water is released from Annapurna reservoir to Ranganayakasagar reservoir in Kaleshwaram project package. The pump house was built in the tunnel at Chandlapur. Godavari water from Annapurna reservoir flows into the Chandlapur Surgical pump through the open canal tunnel.

When lifted, the Ranganayakasagar fills into the reservoir. Four motors with 134 MW capacity have been fitted for this purpose. This surgical pump can lift 1.5 TMC of water per day and is about 65 meters deep.

The reservoir will cover 78,000 acres in Siddipetta district and 32,000 acres in Rajnanasirisilla district. The four zones in the Siddipet constituency cover 50 villages. 34,990 acres in 20 villages of chinna kooduru Zone, 23,621 acres in 17 villages in Nangunoor Zone, 5,323 acres in 8 villages of Siddipetta Urban Zone, 3,861 acres in Siddipetta Rural Zone, 269 acres of hilltops in Ghazwell constituency, 2,263 acres in Koheda zone in Husnabad constituency will be supplied with Godavari water from this reservoir.
