Ram Setu, one of the most awaited films of Bollywood, has hit the screens today in Hindi as well as Telugu and Tamil languages. It is based on Ram-Setu and follows an archaeologist who is investigating the nature of Ram Setu (Adams-Bridge). This film is directed by Abhishek Sharma and also stars Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Satya Dev in key roles. Let’s check out the review:

Story:

The film opens in Afghanistan by introducing a veteran archaeologist with super skills. Dr Aryan (Akshay Kumar) a non-believer, gets the task of disproving the reality of the Ram Setu, the bridge between India and Sri Lanka described in Valmiki’s Ramayana. However, he finds that the structure may actually be man-made, implying Lord Ram may be historical after all. How Dr Aryan solves obstacles to find a lost trail in search of Ravana’s golden Lanka with the help of Dr Sandra (Jacqueline Fernandez) and a local Lankan guide AP (Satya Dev) forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Akshay Kumar played the role of an archaeologist who is also an atheist (Similar to the characterisation of Nikhil in the Karthikeya Series – Including character changeovers). As this kind of character is new to Akshay Kumar, he did his best to fit himself into the character, working out on language modulations and body language. Jacqueline’s character is another Alia Bhatt’s character in Bramhastra. She has very much less to even perform. Nushrat Bharucha shines in her given role and Satyadev’s character is a highlight of the film, which gives little relief to the audience in this serious adventure thriller. Nassar and Pravesh Rana are perfect in their given roles.

Off-Screen Performances:

Coming to off-screen performances, there is nothing much to describe about technicians as they underperformed their roles. The background music of Daniel B. George is terrible and the editing must have been better than they did. The cinematography by Aseem Mishra is very pale on screen and most of the VFX part seems to be unrealistic in May parts.

Although Abhishek Sharma selected an interesting line, he failed to present it with a racy Screenplay and made it uninteresting with his mediocre narrating style.

Plus Points:

  • Climax Episode
  • Sathya Dev Character
  • Couple of Adventure Scenes

Minus Points:

  • Screenplay
  • VFX
  • Background music and editing

Verdict:

On the whole, Ram Setu is another melodrama which is called an adventure thriller from Bollywood this year. It fails to engage and impress the audience entirety. Although with a well-executed climax, the film suffers majorly due to a lack of a convincing plot and poor VFX. There is nothing much exciting about this movie. “Watching it is an Adventure.”
