At a time when the entire country was facing the wrath of Covid-19 pandemic, Ram Gopal Varma made a film with the title Coronavirus. The makers of this film patiently waited for theaters to re-open and their patience paid off today as Coronavirus is out in theaters. Scroll down to read our review of the movie.

Story:

A middle class family of 7, including the head of household, Anand Rao(Srikanth Iyengar) face mental trauma as media keeps publishing multiple reports on Covid-19 outbreak. All the social stigma, fears, and complications surrounding Covid-19 pandemic push the family to take an irrational decision. The rest of the plot deals with the consequences the family faces due to their decision.

What about on-screen performances?

Srikanth Iyengar is the driving force behind the film. His impressive performance makes the film more relatable. Vamsi Chaganti plays male lead and he carries the role quite well. His emotional performance in the climax is praise worthy. Sonia Akula, and Dakkshi Guttikonda play other supporting roles and they do reasonably well.

What about off-screen talents?

Coronavirus has a plot which is relatable to almost every household. The uncertainty, stigma, and fears surrounding Covid-19 form the core plot of this film. The film starts off on a bright note but loses steam as things progress. Agastya Manju should have taken a crisp approach when it comes to narrative. YS Jagan’s “Bleaching powder” and “Paracetamol” dialogues were used well in the narrative.

The visuals are gripping and evoke a decent feel. DSR’s background score is of average quality.

What’s Hot?

Srikanth Iyengar’s performance
Emotional climax
The fear factor evoked through Covid-19 outbreak
Satirical use of YS Jagan’s dialogue.

What’s Not?

Predictable story
Screenplay in the second half
Repetitive scenes
Uninteresting narrative

Verdict:

Coronavirus, supervised by Ram Gopal Varma and directed by Agastya Manju, is a middling social drama that is neither interesting nor completely appalling. The film lacks the excitement factor as everyone had already experienced such situations over the past few months. The film might have done comparatively better if it was released a few months ago when Covid-19 was still very much relevant.

Watch or Not?: If you way too much free time, you might give it a try.
