Pre-Covid domestic air passenger traffic to be restored by Diwali

Centre is prepping up to make outbound flyers from India on international flights to have a COVID-19 test done prior to boarding the flight. This decision was taken subsequent to the Hong Kong government banning Air India flights till August 31 after 11 people tested positive for Covid-19 on reaching there from Delhi.

By referring to the Hong Kong government’s intiative about the untowardly incident, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a press meet on Monday that in one place a number of passengers were found positive and that country is now reconsidering to suspend flights from India. He opined to do the same in such scenarios, however urged that Civil Aviation Secretary should take RT-PCR test certificate from people entering in the airport prior to embarkation.

Much of the pre-Covid domestic air passenger traffic could be restored by Diwali, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday.

The Centre will release more number of flights from cities such as Mumbai and Kolkata, whose operations have been inhibited so far. “The figure of domestic passenger on Sunday was 98,800, so we have already reached 33% of pre-Covid numbers. We are expanding domestic passengers at the rate of 5,000 a week”, he stated.
