With the election season setting in, Andhra Pradesh is bracing for the all important polling day which is on 13 May. Amidst the political heat, a a political thriller is hitting the theaters and it is none other than Prathinidhi 2 which has Nara Rohit in the lead role. Let’s see what the film has to offer to the audience.

Story: Chethan(Rohit) is an investigative journalist with righteous conviction. After following his good work a media channel named NNC appoints him as their CEO. This is where Chethan starts his journey to identify and trace out the irregularities orchestrated by politicians. Incidentally, he then faces the challenge of investigating a murder attempt made on CM(Sachin Khandekar) and he finds several shocking facts behind this. What are those facts? How are they relevant to current political landscape in AP?

How did the actors perform?

Nara Rohit looks settled in the role of an investigative journalist. He has the demeanour and body language for the role. Tanikella Bharani, Raghu Babu and Prithviraj get brief yet important roles.

Sachin Khandekar as CM is authentic. He has the suave to play such a role. Female lead Siri Lella gets a meaty role as she plays CM’s OSD. Jisshu Sengupta also delivers a decent performance. The film has sound performances from the cast.

What about the technical aspects?

The film is directed by TV5 Murthy and it has several relevant features to the current day political scenario. The way Rohit’s character addresses the current-day issues faced by the farming community is presented very well.

The addressal of the murder attempt on the chief minister and the subsequent track where the journalist questions the need for public to end their lives when something happens to the CM is handled well. This has its roots in the recent incidents in AP.

Despite being a political thriller this film doesn’t have any overwhelming political narratives that are intended to help or support any political party. It has a generic premise.

Cinematography by Nani Chamidisetty is of good quality and so is the background score by Sagar Mahati.

What’s Hot?

  • Rohit’s settled performance
  • Relevant Political Theme
  • Engaging twists

What’s Not?

  • Genre driven so appeal is limited
  • Takes time to enter core premise
  • Certain cinematic liberties in second half

Verdict: This is a genre driven films that blends investigative journalism with political threads. The film has a pacy screenplay that works the trick. But given the tropes of the genre, whether or not it appeals to all section of the audience is a doubt. But for those who love this genre films, it makes for a one-time watch.
