Her parents, Priyanka and Mihir Kamat have already raised the needed amount of ₹ 16 crores towards the cost of the drug. They had written on social media about their child’s fight appealed to the government to waive import duty and GST on medicines. They said that 23 per cent import duty and 12 per cent GST added Rs 6 crore to the cost of Rs 16 crore that the treatment entails.
Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had written to the Centre requesting a waiver of import duty and GST. After the Centre showed its generosity, Fadnavis has thanked Narendra Modi for waiving off custom duty worth over ₹ 6 crores on a life-saving drug.
