Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the industrious work of scientists and innovators on National Technology day amid the covid-19 battle.
“On National Technology Day, we salute the hard work and tenacity of our scientists and those passionate about technology. We remember with pride the 1998 Pokhran Tests, which demonstrated India’s scientific and technological prowess”.
He added that in every challenging situation, our scientists and innovators have always risen to the occasion to uproot the cause. PM appreciated their spirit and remarkable zeal for having been working relentlessly since last year to battle COVID-19 and helping India by developing vaccines.
National Technology Day is commemorated every year in India on May 11 to honour the achievements of engineers and scientists in the field of science and technology.
This year, the theme of the National Technology Day is ‘Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future’.
PM specially mentioned about the 1998 Pokhran tests because three nuclear tests were held successively on this day in 1998 in Pokhran, which gives National Technology Day its remarkable recognition. The tests were headed by aerospace scientist and former President of India late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The Pokhran mission was conducted by the Indian Army jointly with scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMDER).
