Public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court seeking to give the Covid-19 vaccine to all those above 18 years of age. Lawyer Rashmi Singh said in her petition that this was urgent as corona cases were rising exponentially across the country.
The petitioner reported to the court that vaccination should be provided especially to the youth and employees so that the second wave of corona could be prevented from spreading.
The petitioner contended that refusing to give the vaccine to those between 18 to 45 years of age was arbitrary and discriminatory. According to the petition, experts have said that 10 million doses per day should be given to bring the situation under control in India.
It is a known fact that the Central Government currently allows vaccination only for those above 45 years of age.
