Several petitions have been filed against the 3 Capitals that have been proposed by the YSRCP government. Many of these petitions came to hearing when Chief Justice Maheshwari was still working at the Andhra Pradesh High Court. However, when CJ’s transfer was announced, following the letter that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote to the Chief Justice of India, these petitions came to a standstill.
Now, these petitions are all set to be heard again, by a bench consisting of 3 members, Chief Justice AK Goswami, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice N. Jayasurya. The AP government has been pushing for these petitions to be heard so that the capital could be shifted as soon as possible… The new bench was formed after an official submission by the Advocate General.
The decentralisation and the CRDA repeal bills have been termed unconstitutional and illegal in several petitions, and most of the petitions filed on the 3 Capitals, are against them. The Amaravati farmers have been protesting for months together, and have, on many occasions, made clear that they gave away their lands only because the government promised them a capital and great development for the state, on their lands.
