Recently, the High Court has quashed the restraining orders issued by SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to restrict Panchayati Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy to his home till the end of the panchayat elections.
The court said that the Election Commissioner does not have the power to issue such orders.
The court held that the Election Commissioner did not have the power to order the petitioner to remain under house arrest until the 21st of this month. At the same time, freedom of expression is subjected to reasonable limits.
AP HC said that ‘In view of this, we are revoking the orders to be under house arrest till the 21st of this month’. It seems like Peddireddy is not much satisfied with the partial victory over the SEC. The privilege committee is likely to take a decision in favor of Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy.
