The nomination process started in Tamilnadu in the wake of the Assembly elections. On the first day, several independent candidates, including Deputy Chief Minister Panneer Selvam, filed nominations.
Among them was Padmarajan (62). He was known as ‘Therdal Mannan’ (King of Elections) by nominating in every election in the state. He filed his nomination as an independent candidate from the Mettur constituency for the upcoming Assembly elections on April 6.
However, Padmarajan has made it a habit of filing nominations from the co-operative elections to the Presidential elections. He first filed nomination for the Mettur Assembly seat in 1988 for a telephone facility at his home.
Since then, he is filing nominations for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. If he has no money for the deposit, he sells his wife’s jewelry and makes money to file nominations. To date, he has filed 215 nominations.
