There is a whole lot of uncertainty surrounding theatrical revenues and related business in India. There is no affirmative update so as to when theatres will re-open. Even if they do re-open, it would be extremely tough to predict the average footfalls at cinema halls.
This is making like easier for OTT giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ZEE5 and others. These platforms are constantly in touch with Telugu producers, luring then to sell of the direct-to-digital rights of their respective film.
OTT giants have already initiated talks with the makers of Nani’s Tuck Jagadish, Vishwak Sen’s Paagal, Naga Chaitanya’s Love Story, and others. They are offering lucrative deals for the digital rights of the film.
However, mainstream heroes are firmly against the OTT landscape. The likes of Nani, Vishwak, and Naga Chaitanya want their films to release only in theatres. They are not even considering OTT as a plausible alternative.
Producers are opining that selling off the digital rights of their films for a good price now, rather than waiting for theatres for theatres to re-open. But they are bowing to the pressure that is being exerted on them by mainstream heroes.
