Story

Basava(Sundeep Kishan) is a stuntman who robs precious jewelry and runs away from a village. He along with his sidekick John(Viva Harsha) comes across Geetha(Kavya Thapar) who acts as if she had an accident. All these three get lost in the way and end up in a village named Bhairavakona. To their shock, they come to know that the jewelry they have robbed has a connection with the ghosts who live in that village. What will the gang do now? Who is the owner of this jewelry? and what role Bhoomi(Varsha Bollama) plays in this spooky setup is the story of Ooru Peru Bhairavakona.

What about on-screen performances?

Sundeep Kishan is a sincere actor and does well in the film. Be it his screen presence or dialogue delivery, the young actor holds your attention till the end and carries the film on his shoulders.

Viva Harsha is getting better with each film of his and is amazing in his role. He provides multiple laughs in the first half and Harsha’s acting in all the horror comedy scenes was superb.

Kavya Thapar is getting comfortable on screen with each movie and is neat in her role. She has a good role and performs to the best of her capabilities. Vennela Kishore evokes ample laughs in the film and his scenes with Viva Harsha are good.

Varsha Bollama gets a meaty role and she was quite good. She looked a bit clueless in the second half but holds well. Ravi Shankar is a good actor but is not utilized properly in this film. He is loud as hell in his role.

What about off-screen talents?

One of the biggest assets of the film is the music by Sekhar Chandra. He breathes life into the film with his hit numbers. Also, his BGM is terrific in the film and elevates the spooky part quite nicely.

The production values of the film are top-notch. The production design needs special applause as the set work, VFX, and sound design were amazing in the film.

The lyrics are okay and the editing is also on par. The screenplay is the biggest villain as the emotions do not hold your attention one bit. The second half is rushed for no reason and hampers the film.

The camerawork is impressive and especially the scenes in Bhairavakona have been showcased quite richly with good VFX and smart editing. The dubbing is also decent.

Director VI Anand’s work is not impressive. His story is good on paper but falters in execution completely. He tries to link up multiple tracks to the main plot and fails badly. Anand did not simply narrate the film and was confused in many areas.

In the first half, there are so many questions for the audience to understand. After setting up a solid interval bang, one would expect a ruckus around Bhairavakona. But that does not happen and the film wayward with the silly track of Varsha Bollama.

The second half, in particular, is a big misfire and bores the audience. It is rushed, looks over the top, and does not sink with the conflict point one bit ending as a major disappointment.

What’s Hot?

  • First half
  • Viva Harsha and Vennela Kishore’s comedy
  • Introduction of Bhairavakona episode
  • Songs

What’s Not?

  • Second half
  • Lack of emotions
  • Over-the-top scenes
  • Confusing screenplay
  • Unnecessary deviation in story

Verdict:

Overall, Ooru Peru Bhairavakona is good on paper but falters in its execution. The first half has decent moments but it is marred by silly scenes, a lack of emotions, and a conflict point in the second half which is rushed. Sundeep Kishan’s wait to score a hit continues sadly though he is good in the film.
