Ongole district court has handed down a sensational verdict in the highway killer Munna gang case. The court sentenced Munna, the main accused in the gang, and 11 others to death after a 13-year trial revealed that the accused had brutally murdered lorry drivers and cleaners.
The gang murder of lorry drivers and cleaners on the highway 13 years ago has created a sensation. The judge said three of them should be hanged twice.
The atrocities came to light in 2008. In this connection, 18 people were proved guilty in 4 cases. The driver and the cleaner went missing along with the lorry, which was heading to Kalpakam in Tamil Nadu with a load of iron rods from Durgapur in West Bengal.
On October 17, 2008, lorry owner Veerappan Kuppuswamy lodged a complaint at the Ongole police station. During the investigation, it was found that dreaded gangster Md. Abdul Samad alias Munna Bhai and his gang were involved in this. More than 20 SIM cards were seized in Karnataka before Munna tried to flee the country.
Several outrageous things came to light in the course of interrogating the Munna gang. The investigation revealed that the Munna gang was dressed as police and stopped oncoming vehicles on the highway. Seven people were killed in a total of 4 cases in the Ongole area.
