The only South Indian state that was under the BJP rule was Karnataka. This is the only state that had endorsed the saffron party while Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu kept it bay.
However, now, BJP has been ousted from Karnataka as well. In the Karnataka election results that were released today, BJP disappeared without any impact.
The party ended up with just 66 MLA seats. Many ministers and bigwigs like Sriramulu, K Sudhakar, and others had lost their own MLA segments.
With this, South India remains to be an independent entity. The power is mostly held by the regional parties in the Southern part of the country and this starts a new precedent.
This has come as a rude shock to the BJP high command which had been trying to set foot in the South Indian political space for a long time.
