Nine people have been sentenced to death in the 2016 Gopalganj hooch tragedy case. The special excise court in Bihar award capital punishment for nine accused on Friday. The court also handed life imprisonment to four women in the case and fined each of them Rs 10 lakh. All nine given death punishment are from the same family.
The hooch tragedy happened in August 2016 in the Gopalganj district of Bihar in which nineteen people lost their lives and six others lost their eyesight.
The police carried out a precise investigation had submitted charge sheets against 14 persons while one of them had expired during the investigation period.
All the sentences were found associated with the selling, manufacturing and exporting of spurious illicit liquor under the Gopalganj town Police station in 2016 after the liquor tragedy.
