Nimmagadda meets AP Governor, what’s happening?

Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has recently met with AP governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan, regarding the local body elections that are to be conducted in the state.

The local body elections that were to be conducted in March were postponed due to the increasing number of coronavirus infections in AP. Postponing these elections did not sit well with the AP government, which then tried its best to remove Nimmagadda from office. However, Nimmagadda fought hard and managed to stay in office, with the help of the High Court and Supreme Court orders.

Now that Coronavirus has slowly started to subside, considerably, Nimmagadda has been planning to conduct the local body elections in the state. However, the AP government is reportedly not cooperating with the SEC to conduct these elections. Sources reveal that the AP government is not interested in conducting the local body elections until Nimmagadda’s term as the SEC is over.

It is now being said that Nimmagadda met with the governor to discuss these issues. He is said to have informed the governor that the State Election Commision is taking all sorts of precautions with respect to the elections, and that it is making sure that every region is safe, with respect to coronavirus. Furthermore, he is said to have told the governor that the AP government is not letting a constitutional, independent body to perform its duties.

On the other hand, Minister Kodali Nani has once again made derogatory statements against Nimmagadda, and questioned how the SEC can take decisions for Andhra Pradesh, while residing in Hyderabad. Previously too, it was Nani who questioned what Nimmagadda would be able to do in case he was reinstated as the SEC.
