The Andhra Pradesh government and Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner, Nimmgadda Ramsh Kumar, have barely seen eye to eye in the last one year. Things got chaotic after Nimmagadda refused to conduct the local elections in early 2020 due to Coronavirus. The government even tried to remove Nimmagadda from his position, but he managed to stay in his position, with the help of the judiciary.
It is a known fact that the AP government had tried its best to stall the local elections which are scheduled to take place from February 9th, citing the spread of Coronavirus. However, following the Supreme Court’s verdict, stating that the elections are to be held as per the SEC’s plan, the government has been left with no option, but to cooperate with the SEC.
As part of preparing for the upcoming elections, the SEC is now touring Kadapa, requesting the poeple of the area to take active part in the elections and vote for the right candidate, who would be able to help them the best. Speaking on the occasion, Nimmagdda spoke about YS Rajasekhar Reddy and said that he used to give a lot of freedom to officials, to speak their mind, and that it is because of him that he is today in this position. He also said that YSR was a true secular, who always supported every religion, despite having his own belief system.
With Nimmagadda speaking so highly of YSR in Kadapa, many are saying that the SEC has used the former CM’s name to get support in Kadapa, and has indirectly drawn comparisons between YSR and Jagan, as Jagan’s government has been known to get what they want, rather than on focusing what people want.
