Myanmar massacre: 38 civilians have been killed in police firing

Concerns are rife against military rule in Myanmar. The military has taken control of Myanmar. The head of government placed the Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest. The military leadership announced that the state of emergency would continue for a year. A total of 38 civilians have been killed as the military opened fire on protestors, according to international media reports.

The military leadership did not want to give approval for the government of the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi, which came to power with an overwhelming majority in the last election. The army and the opposition allege that many irregularities took place in the last election.

The opposition-backed military leadership wants re-election in the country. The army seized power before the newly elected government could begin parliamentary sessions.
