Mumbai records 90% of beneficiaries taking the Covid-19 vaccine jabs

The mass vaccination programme running across the nation has seen incredibly positive response. For the second consecutive day on Saturday, Mumbai recorded a high number of beneficiaries for vaccination jabs. In the first phase, it reached 90% of its target at the 10 vaccination centres across the city.

Major private hospitals in the Mumbai city have urged civic authorities to decentralise the Covid-19 vaccination drive that is restricted to 10 public centres currently. Hospital managements hinted that a higher number of beneficiaries could be inoculated within a stipulated time.

For the first three days of vaccination, only 5,254 health workers were given the jabs out of 10500 individuals. Currently, BMC has 40 booths in nine centres with trained vaccinators.

Mumbai was able to speed up the process of facilitating the services of trained health workers by bringing them on board at major hospitals’ own premises. Also by inclusion of the walk-in provision, any healthcare worker who has pre-registered for the vaccine can take the vaccine any time and at any of the nine centres.

Subsequently, on Friday, the fourth day of the drive, the figure surmounted to 92% with 3,539 out of 3,852 selected healthcare workers (HCWs) receiving the Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccination drive will continue on Monday. Maharashtra, saw the highest turnout among 27 states that facilitated vaccination drives on Saturday reaching 80%.

Ten out of the 36 districts in Maharashtra reported over 100% turnout on the fifth day of Covid-19 vaccination drive on Saturday.
