Mumbai Crime Branch police on Sunday busted a sextortion racket that had been targeting MLAs, MPs and bureaucrats. The cops arrested three persons from Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in connection with the rocket. The gang targets MLAs, MPs and government officials by using fake social profiles and used to make their victims watch porn.
As per reports, the accused used to send friend requests to their targets on social media. After chatting with the victims, the accused used to video call them on the weekends and encourage them to watch porn videos. While they were watching, the accused used to record their facial expressions through an app in order to blackmail them.
Initially, the accused took a small amount of money. Once, the victims fell prey to the trap; they used to ask for more money from them.
The accused used 171 fake Facebook profiles and 4 Telegram channels to trap the people. Police seized 58 bank accounts and revealed that they used 54 mobile phones to reach the victims.
