Hyderabad: It has been 10 years since National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had issued ‘Guidelines on Management of Urban Flooding’ but many of its recommendations, in addition to those about flood early warning system have not come into force precisely. This is despite the fact that Hyderabad had witnessed debilitating floods back in 2000 and later in 2016 and 2017.
As unprecedented rains hit the city’s infrastructure, several electrical connections, roads, bridges etc got severely damaged. In 2020, highest rainfall was measured after 20years. In these ill-fated situations, commuters on Sunday spotted a metal bar near Raidurgam flyover. Onlookers believe it to have fallen off from the Biodiversity flyover.
Inspector Sridhar from Madhapur traffic station stated, “We did get a call with regards to a metal bar in the middle of Raidurgam flyover. However, no commuter was hurt. We have called Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) officials, who said they will conduct a routine inspection. The metal bar was immediately cleared and there was no necessity of traffic diversion as there were very few commuters on the flyover today.”
The flyover has been built at biodiversity junction to ease the traffic from Gachhibowli to Mehdipatnam under GHMC’s strategic road development programme. The officials are currently taking measures to avoid any such untowardly incidents.
