Talented actor SJ Suryah teamed up with Vishal in the sci-fi gangster action drama Mark Antony, directed by Adhik Ravichandran. The movie has been released today, and let us see how it has turned out to be.
Story:
Jackie Marthanda (SJ Suryah) and Antony (Vishal) are good friends. They are both gang members who are at odds with Ekambaram (Sunil), another gang member. Ekambaram kills Antony one day and flees the area. Jackie is committed to get retribution on Ekambaram for the murder of his comrade. Mark (Vishal), the son of Antony, is raised by Jackie as his own, who gives more importance to Mark than to his own son Madhan, which complicates matters. One day, a phone call alters Mark’s life. What is that phone call and why it alters his life forms the rest of the story.
On Screen Performances:
Both as a mechanic and a thug, Vishal excels. The son role is adorable, despite the harsh father role. He deserves praise for highlighting the differences between the two jobs. Vishal also has a strong presence on the big screen, in both roles. He once again proves his mettle as an actor in this film.
SJ Suryah and Sunil are great assets to the film, who give in solid performances. It is a good experience to watch them on the big screen. The rest of the supporting cast is also good enough but does not have a lot to do.
The leading lady, Ritu Varma, doesn’t add anything to the story and is wasted. It wouldn’t have mattered if she weren’t in the film either.
Off-Screen Talents:
Mark Antony is a film that comes up with a routine story and setup, which is its major drawback. The director doesn’t do anything much to at least present the film in a new way, which further affects the film negatively. Moreover, there are too many characters in the film, and as such, proper justice could not be done for all of them. Sunil’s character is one of the main victims of this. The climax also fails to be good enough.
The background score by GV Prakash Kumar is good, but the songs are an utter disappointment. The cinematography and production values are good, but the editing could have been better.

Verdict:
Mark Antony is a film that doesn’t have anything brand new to offer, apart from the sci-fi element. Skip the movie if you have anything better to do.
