Chittoor police have arrested a man, who was involved in online scams, ganja trade and cheating women for money. The cops have seized Rs 1 lakh worth of ganja, two mobile phones and Rs 50,000 cash.
SP Senthil Kumar presented the accused and revealed the details at a press conference held at the Chittoor police guest house on Monday.
As per the police, the man cheated on young women in many states, including Andhra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra. A young woman from NRP near Chittoor bravely came forward and lodged a complaint against him.
A few days ago, Punnati Srinivas (33) from Kotikalapudi village in Prakasam district’s Addanki Mandal, phoned a young woman and said he saw her profile on a matrimonial site and assured her that he would marry her. He hid his baldness on various matrimonial websites and posted photos with a wig.
After talking for a few days, he told her that he needed money and asked her to send it to the account of another woman in Madanapalle. She sent Rs 1.35 lakh twice.
A special team headed by Chittoor DSC Sudhakar Reddy was appointed following a complaint lodged by her. Based on the complaint, the cops conducted an investigation and found that Srinivas has so far cheated 30 young women.
