The Trinamool Congress won by a vast majority in the West Bengal general elections. However, a huge shocker came in the form of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‘s loss in Nandigram, where Bharatiya Janata Party’s Suvendhu Adhikari won.
While the TMC continues its stance on there being discrepancies in voting in Nandigram, Mamata has openly accepted her defeat, stating that it is up to the people of Nandigram to choose the candidate of their choice. She also said that she will continue her fight, no matter what the people’s verdict may be.
BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari has defeated Mamata Banerjee by 1,736 votes in Nandigram. TMC’s victory was largely anticipated in WB, despite the BJP putting up a strong fight. While the TMC won 214 seats, the BJP managed to win 76 seats.
On the other hand, political strategist Prashant Kishor, who was instrumental to TMC’s win in West Bengal, announced today that he would be taking a break from politics, and would focus on doing something else, and on his family life. Interestingly, as PK had predicted in December 2020, the BJP has not been able to cross double digits in WB.
