The Indian film industry has suffered a significant loss with the demise of legendary actor Dilip Kumar on Wednesday. He had been suffering from respiratory problems for some time and was admitted to the Hinduja Hospital on June 30.
It was in this order that the 98-year-old iconic actor breathed his last on Wednesday morning. Dilip Kumar’s death shocked film celebrities, politicians and his fans.
Born in Peshawar, Pakistan on December 11, 1922, Dilip Kumar used to sell fruits with his father before entering the movies. He then entered the industry intending to excel as an actor. He faced many setbacks and became one of the proudest actors in India. He made his silver screen debut as an actor with the 1944 film Jwar Bhata.
Dilip Kumar, who acted in nearly 70 films, has received several Filmfare Awards for Best Actor. In recognition of his services to the film industry, the Government of India honoured him with the prestigious ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ in 1994. In 2015, the GOI honoured Kumar with India’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, for his contributions to Indian cinema.
