Vijay Deverakonda teamed up with Samantha for the second time after Mahanati, for Kushi, directed by Shiva Nirvana. There are massive expectations on this film, which has been released today. Let’s see how the film has turned out to be
Story:
Viplav goes to Kashmir on a job assignment, where he meets Ara(dhya) Begum, whom he thinks is a Muslim. However, he soon gets to know that she’s Aaradhya, a staunch Brahmin. They both fall in love, and realise that their fathers are professional rivals. Despite that, and despite Aaradhya’s father having his conditions and rejecting the marriage, the two get married. After that, problems in their marital life start. What are these problems and how do they solve them, forms the rest of the story.
On Screen Performances:
Vijay Deverakonda doesn’t disappoint when it comes to his looks or performances. This is arguably his best when it comes to the way he looks. He looks very handsome on the screen and is also quite good with his performance. He perfectly displays all the emotions of Viplav.
Samantha, as usual, gives her best when it comes to performance. She is on par with Vijay, and they both complement each other. While she does look good, this is not her best when it comes to her looks..
The rest of the supporting cast in the movie, including Murali Sharma and Sachin are all good in their roles, and provide a slight bit of entertainment as well. They all do their part for the advancement of the story.
Off Screen Talents:
Director Shiva Nirvana has come up with a subject that is very familiar to the audiences, and while one expects him to take a more entertaining and unique direction when it comes to narrating his story, he doesn’t. The first half lags a lot, with the proceedings being very slow. The second half is better than the first half when it comes to the pacing, but on the whole, the movie could have been a lot more crisper. The feel-good moments in the film are few and far between, which is another major flaw of the movie.
The music of the film is its biggest backbone, with debutant Hesham Abdul Wahab giving a knockout album for Kushi. He is also quite good when it comes tot he background score of the film. The cinematography is also an asset for the film, with some locations having been shown in an absolutely breathtaking manner.
The production values of the film are top notch, but the editing of the film could have been so much better, with the run time and the lag time being a lot.
Plus Points:
- Vijay and Samantha’s performances
- Music
- Cinematography
Minus Points:
- Lag in both halves
- Just a few feel-good moments
- Not much entertainment
Verdict: Kushi is a middling rom-com drama that would have worked a lot better if the entertainment values were higher, and the runtime was shorter. Director should have focused more on writing and screenplay to make it even more crispier.

3:30 PM EST: Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) an employee of BSNL moves to Kashmir for work. He falls in love with Aaradhya(Samantha). Kushi title is colorful to watch. Vennela Kishore’s comedy is okay.
Interval Report: First half of Kushi fails to engage the audience for the most part, the last 20 mins of first half is okay. Good performances from lead pair. 2 songs are okay. Largely depends on 2nd half of the movie.
Final Report: Kushi is a Rom-Com drama that partly engages.2nd half is better than the first half but length is a concern. Lead pair performances are good, VD looks super handsome. BGM and songs are fine. The screenplay/editing is not crisp, it has more dragging/boring scenes than feel-good scenes which is a must for this kind of genre. The main conflict in the movie has a resemblance to Maniratnam’s Sakhi.
