Kotabommali PS Review – Gripping Survival Cop Thriller

Kotabommali PS is a Telugu-language political crime thriller which is directed by Teja Marni. It is the official remake of the 2021 Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’ written by Shahi Kabir & directed by Martin Prakkat. The film has Srikanth, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Rahul Vijay, Shivani Rajashekar, and Murali Sharma playing important characters. The music is composed by Ranjin Raj & Midhun Mukundan and the film is produced by Bunny Vas & Vidya Koppineedi under GA2 Pictures banner.

Story:

The story revolves around the lives of three policemen- One S.I (Srikanth) and two constables (Rahul Vijay & Shivani Rajashekar) who are framed for murder by a corrupt politician (Murali Sharma) for his own political benefit. Another officer Ali (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) is appointed to catch these three policemen. How will the three cops go on the run to save their lives & prove their innocence? Will Ali be able to catch them all? Needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Senior hero Srikanth delivers one of his career-best performances in the film. He plays the role of a responsible policeman and a caring father like a pro and passes with flying colors. His role suits his age and this is a perfect comeback film for him as a lead actor.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar once again proves her worth with a commendable performance as the investigation officer. She brings a lot to the table with her amazing screen presence and commanding stature, especially in the second half of the film.

Rahul Vijay and Shivani Rajasekhar also come up with decent performances as the other 2 constables. They shine in their full-length roles and are too good with their dances in the Lingidi song.

Murali Sharma impresses as a selfish politician who goes to any lengths to win the elections. His body language is perfect and he does his part well.

Vishnu Oi, Dayanand Reddy, Nalla Sreedhar Reddy, Kancharapalem Kishore, Banerjee & all other supporting actors are very good in their respective roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The original story by Shahi Kabir is very realistic and is the need of the hour in this current election period. It showcases how common people these days are selling their votes to corrupt politicians and how the cops are made puppets in front of these politicians for the votes from a particular caste during the elections.

The adapted screenplay by Teja Marni is well-written. He has made all the necessary changes to suit this script to the Telugu audiences keeping the political atmosphere in the Telugu states in mind. All the changes work in favour of the film and the pace of the narrative is also very engaging.

Director Teja Marni does a brilliant job with his presentation. He narrated the entire plot in a gripping manner without boring the audience. Except for a few loose ends at places, all the investigation scenes are handled with great detailing, and even the political scenes are neatly portrayed without targeting any particular political party. Kudos to the way he has handled this remake.

The dialogues too are well written. The conversations are kept authentic and the lines add good value to the plot.

The camera work by Jagadeesh Cheekati is first-rate. The way he lits all his scenes and frames his shots is impressive.

The Lingidi song by Midhun Mukundan is definitely one of the biggest plus points of the film. It will surely get whistles in the theatre for the way it has been shot and choreographed. The other songs and background music by Ranjin Raj are good and go well with the genre of the film.

Editing by Karthika Srinivas R is crisp and is perfectly cut within the needed run time of 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The artwork by Gandhi Nadikudikar and the choreography by Polanki Vijay are done well.

The production values by GA2 Pictures are top-notch.

Verdict: Kotabommali PS is a gripping survival thriller where cops chase their own people and is the need-of-the-hour film in this current political scenario. Overall it is a well-made remake of the Malayalam movie ‘Nayattu’.
