The Andhra Pradesh High Court has reacted seriously to a case in which objectionable posts were posted on social media insulting courts and judges. It has been a year since the case was registered and all the accused have not been arrested. The court asked the CBI whether it was standing by the accused. Commented that it was still suspected that no action had been taken to remove the videos.
The High Court questioned the CBI as to why a person named Panch Prabhakar was not arrested if he was staying abroad and posting videos every day. The courts are becoming the target of allegations whenever passing the judgements; the HC said.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the CBI had failed to take action against those who posted on social media. That is why Punch Prabhakar is once again posting videos insulting the judges through his YouTube channel.
Lawyers for WhatsApp, Facebook, Google and YouTube have argued that the posts cannot be tied down. So far, 11 people have been arrested in the case, and five have been released on bail, a CBI lawyer said. We are contacting the Center to remove the objectionable posts. Notices have been issued to Punch Prabhakar, and a letter has been written to Interpol.
The High Court bench questioned how the CBI could not take steps to curb objectionable posts. The court on Friday directed the CBI SP to appear before the court and explain the progress in the case.
