Jagan: Our stance on decentralisation stands

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy hasn’t made a single comment on Amaravati since the AP High Court gave its verdict on the matter. The CM has now broken his silence, having spoken on the topic in the Assembly today. The CM said that the government will continue to stand on the decentralisation act and that there’s not going to be any change in their stance. Jagan said that the YSRCP government always kept in mind just one thing, that capital development, or development in general, shouldn’t be limited to one place, and should be spread out, which was the main reason behind introducing the 3 Capitals bill in the first place.

The CM said that the main reason for the bifurcation of the state is that development was limited to just one place, and it was the intent of the YSRCP government to not repeat the same mistake with AP. Furthermore, Jagan took a dig at the judiciary, saying that the constitution states that the country, and the states, would function well only when the judiciary, legislature and executive work in coordination with each other, with no single body overpowering the other. He even said that the Judiciary has no right whatsoever, to pass any judgement on the decentralisation act, as the sole power lies with the legislature.

Jagan said that it was ridiculous to build a capital by investing 1 Lakh Crores, which could otherwise be used in a better way, for the development of the entire state. Jagan said that Chandrababu didn’t announce Amaravati as the capital because he loved the city, but for his own benefit. Jagan stated that he loves Amaravati, which is why he built a house for himself there, but clarified that the YSRCP government would not be adhering to the HC’s verdict, making it clear that no matter what, the YSRCP government intends to stand on its 3 Capital bill. Given that the Amaravati farmers breathed a sigh of relief following the HC’s orders, it is now to be seen how they will react to Jagan’s statements.
