Amul milk which started as a small cooperative is now the number one brand in the country. Aland Varghese Kurien’s hard work and rural dairy farmers have all made Amul a brand. The government has said it has signed an agreement with Amul to make dairy farmers in Andhra Pradesh more profitable and to promote women’s self-empowerment.
TDP government has been criticized for completely undermining the cooperative sector in the state for the betterment of its own heritage company. However, political pundits are of the view that the AP government is launching Amul in order to give tough competition to the local dairy companies such as Vijaya milk, Heritage, Sangam, etc.
In addition to this, Jagan announced that Amul would pay a greater rate to the farmers than the local dairy companies. Though the remaining dairy companies have loyal customers, the volunteers of the YCP govt might pressure the dairy farmers to supply their milk to Amul company.
