Insurance companies introduced ‘Covid kavach policy’ for covid-19 patients

Health insurance plans for Covid-19 hospitalization treatment are exclusively going to be available in the market from today. IRDAI initiated Corona Kavach Policy, where the COVID Standard Health Policy provided by all private insurance companies ought to be in mandatory compliance as per the IRDAI guidelines applicable from July 10, 2020. Corona Kavach Policy is a simple and safe thing to buy as every insurer needs to provide common policy wordings.

A group of insurance companies launched the specialised insurance cover Corona Cavach to help those cover the exorbitant charges in case of infection. The short term plan has a premium cover beginning at Rs 447.

The policy functions like a general Mediclaim product, but is constrained to covid-19 claims solely. Customers can opt for an add on hospital cash cover too. The insurance premium payment is low as it covers only single disease and is eligible for claim from 3 to 9 months.

Apart from hospitalisation the policy cover also includes treatment at home, AYUSH treatment, pre and post hospitalisation, which can be fetched father a 15 day waiting period. The Hospitalization charges to be claimed by the insured person for COVID treatment will be covered by the insurer on testing positive for Covid-19 only when it has been performed in government authorized diagnostic centre.

Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, Max Bupa, HDF Ergo and Bharat A A announced the premium policies on their products as covid kavach on Friday as per IRDAI.
