India vs England 1st Test Day 1: England Reaches A Comfortable 263/3

The Day 1 of 1st Test between India and England ended with the latter’s team reaching a comfortable 263/3. England skipper Joe Root slammed a century in his 100th Test match and led the team from the front to dominate India on Day 1.

Winning the toss, England elected to bat in the first match of the four-Test series. While, the modern-day great, Root scored 128 of 197 balls, Dom Sibley fell to paceman Jasprit Bumrah for 87 in the final over of day one. Soon after the Sibley wicket is gone, stumps were called in Chennai.

Skipper Joe Root made his Test debut in India in 2012 and his century comes on the back of match-winning knocks of 228 and 186 in Sri Lanka. This was his third successive and 20th Test ton.

Opening for England, Rory Burns fell for 33 and Dan Lawrence departed without scoring a single run. Ravichandran Ashwin credited one wicket to his account while Jasprit Bumrah picked two on the first day.
