The Supreme Court on Friday gave relief to actor Sonu Sood against a Bombay High Court order dismissing his case against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation notice over illegal construction at his residential building in Mumbai.
It is known that Sood’s building in Mumbai is facing demolition by the BMC for carrying out architectural changes to a residential building in suburban Juhu without permission. He moved the Bombay High Court over BMC’s notice, but the HC dismissed the actor’s plea and an interim application against the BMC notice.
Sood on Friday withdrew from the apex Court the plea against the Bombay HC order dismissing his case. The top court permitted the withdrawal of the petition and observed that no coercive action be taken against the actor until the civic authorities decide on his application for regularisation.
After the SC verdict, Sonu Sood wrote on his Twitter, “The Hon’ble Supreme Court has finally given me a breath of fresh air and time to take corrective measures. The structure was always legal, despite it being coloured otherwise. I feel vindicated since I have always had utmost and complete faith in the judiciary, and have always strived to abide by the law. My sole endeavour has been to conduct my business fairly, with all the requisite permissions and clearances as may be required in law.”
Sood said in his plea that his application for conversion of his building has been approved by the Municipal Commissioner subject to Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) permission.
