IGNCA to honour artists’ work during covid-19

With all cancelled events or exhibitions since March due to the lockdown, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has of late developed a strategy to switch its lectures online through Facebook. IGNCA is a government funded arts organisation under union ministry of culture that predominantly focuses on arts and is located in New Delhi.

IGNCA member secretary Sachidanand Joshi said that they are looking to honour the work of artists who have been entertaining the public during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Reportedly the precise plan has not been revealed yet, however a virtual festival or display of the artists’ work is in the offing focusing on topics viz., palaeontology, iconography, digitisation etc.

IGNCA secretary told that the artists are like silent COVID warriors who boost the public morale. He further added, “we are looking for artists and institutions who have innovated during the lockdown, whether it is starting online festivals or collecting and delivering groceries to needy artistes”.

On Monday, the IGNCA finished its first series of online lectures that began on April 24th. Mr. Joshi said a virtual programme would be developed for next 15 to 20 days to benefit artists and other online booking platforms in which IGNCA will aid as a facilitator.
