Superstar Mahesh Babu’s nephew Ashok Galla’s debut film, Hero has hit the screens today as Sankranthi festival special. Let’s analyse it.

Story:

Hero prominently revolves around the story of a guy named Arjun(Ashok Galla), who has the aim of becoming a film hero. In the process, he approaches various directors. But as a sudden twist towards the interval block, Arjun receives a gun in the parcel. Who has sent the gun to Arjun? What will he do with it? How is Jagapathi Babu role in the entire setup? Finally, will Arjun achieve his dream of becoming a hero? To know that, you have to watch the film in the theatres.

On-screen performances:

Hero is Ashok Galla’s debut film and is largely impressive in the dances and fights department. His lively and energetic screen presence is a plus point for this fun crime drama. His acting is good in most of the scenes Ashok needs to improve for in the upcoming movies. Ashok’s dialogue diction is also fine.

Heroine Niddhi Agerwal is glamorous and is okay in her limited screen time as the hero’s lover. But the romantic track between the lead pair looks half-baked. Jagapathi Babu is fine with his regular acting. Actor Ravi Kishan’s getup is good but his character is laud.
While Naresh is okay in the father role, Karthika Deepam fame Archana Ananth as hero’s mother is apt as a middle-class mother. Satya is hilarious with his fun in the first half. Vennela Kishore and Brahmaji evoke good laughs at parts.

Off-screen talents:

Director Sriram Aditya, who earlier directed crime dramas such as Bhale Manchi Roju has picked a similar kind of plotline for Hero also. Though the story is very simple, the director made sure that the narrative is coated with fun moments throughout. But a few comedy episodes in the second half look over-the-top which would have been executed in a proper manner.

Music by Ghibran is adequate. While a couple of songs are good, his background score is decent. Cinematography by Sameer Reddy and Richard Prasad is a major plus for the film as they presented the entire film on a stylish note. Prawin Pudi’s editing is alright.
Production values by Amara Raja production house are rich.

Positive Points:

  • Comedy coated narration
  • Ashok Galla’s dances and fights

Negative Points:

  • Lack of strong story
  • A couple of over-the-top fun scenes in the second half

Verdict: In an overview, Hero is a film made is showcase the capabilities of Ashok Galla. Though it’s his debut film, Ashok’s confidence in performing action stunts and his dance moves will impress the audience but surely the young actor has to improve a lot in terms of acting. Overall, the film is a below-average fare at the box office.
