HER Movie Review – Regular Crime Thriller

‘HER – Chapter 1’ was released in theatres on July 21st. The review of the mystery thriller is here.

Story:

ACP Archana Prasad (Ruhani Sharma) is tasked with the investigation of a double murder case. A married man named Vishal and his secret girlfriend Swathi have been found dead on the outskirts of the city. As Archana starts hunting for clues, her troubled past keeps haunting her. She faced suspension in the past and may now have to confront a deadly arms supplier again.

Meanwhile, the needle of suspicion points at a probable black sheep. The rest of the film is about who got the double murders executed, what his motives were, and how Archana solves the case.

Performances:

Ruhani Sharma of ‘Chi La Sow’ fame performanced decently. These days, cop roles have to be approached with more conviction. The actress is best suited for soft roles. ‘HER’ character arc could have been better.

Vikas Vashista as Archana’s boyfriend and other characters such as Sanjay Swaroop as her boss & Pradeep Rudra as her colleague had less scope in the story. Vinod Varma as a cop with a suspicious role is decent. To some extent, Jeevan Kumar of ‘Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi’ appearance is bit entertaining.

Technical Departments:

Producers Raghu Sankuratri and Deepa Sankuratri have ensured decent production values. A good attempt from writer cum director Sreedhar Swarghav. Vishnu Besi’s cinematography could have been a little more innovative, though. The staging of the outdoor scenes, especially the climax, is ok-ish. At 103 minutes, the film has no exciting factor in terms of its running time.

The music by Pavan and the sound design by Sreesan G are average. The influence of the ‘HIT’ franchise and Adivi Sesh’s movies is vivid on both.

Plus Points:

• No regular commercial elements.
• Respectable making values.

Minus Points:

• Cliches like a gloomy past and suspension of the protagonist.
• No major highs anywhere.

Verdict: This story has very few exciting twists & turns but those are also not so new to the audience. It is as regular as any cop-based movies. Better to wait and watch it in ott.
