HC orders State government to respond to PIL against high charges in hospitals

A week ago the Telangana High Court on Friday commanded the state health authorities to review an enquiry into alleged exorbitant fee charges by a private hospital for treating a COVID-19 patient died. With such rising cases HC notified the state to enforce ICMR guildelines strictly. Consequently owing to the inaction, it sent notice to Telangana government, ICMR , IRDA and Drug control authorities.

The court on Wednesday, directed them to respond to the PIL (Public interest litigation) by the petitioner. The court questioned them for being irresponsive to to the petitioner J Venudhar reddy‘s allegations. The petitioner exposed the scam happening in hospitals by emphasising that they charged the common man unnecessarily high and also addressed about the lack of insurance to patients and adverse effects of drugs.

Hc assured the petitioner for a proper solution. It included a bench of Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy who suggested that the petition to be merged along with the Covid-19 PIL’s and scheduled a hearing on Aug 13.

The Bench directed chief secretary Somesh kumar who ensured necessary GO’s to constrain the private hospitals, to appear for the next hearing on August 13. They suggested him to come up with the plan to curb malpractices in corporate hospitals and measures to prevent pandemic situation.

Another PIL is also due for hearing, filed by Siva Ganesh Karnati who urged to seek information regarding the deaths and physically challenged covid-19 patients.
