HC denies permission to Rahul Gandhi event at Osmania

It is known that the issue of organising a political event at Osmania University had reached the Telangana High Court.

The High court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition filed by the students of the University seeking a directive from the vice-chancellor to allow interaction between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and students and jobless youths at the Tagore Auditorium.

As per the plan, the Congress MP was expected to interact with students on May 7 at the university. However, the HC denied permission for the event, saying that the University campus cannot be used as a political platform.

Hearing the petition, the high court said, “The purpose of the proposed meeting cannot be said to be without political overtones in the absence of material to substantiate that the meeting is for some academic activities.”

It said: “Permitting political events violates Resolution No 6 of 1591h meeting of the executive council of the university.”
