It’s been a few weeks since the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued a notice to the AP government to restart the works in the state capital of Amaravati and to even send the HC a rough plan on how the government intends to develop the capital. This came after the HC announced that Amaravati is the sole capital of AP and dismissed the 3 Capitals petition. Now, the HC has asked the government about the status of the works in Amaravati and even asked the government to submit reports on the same.
This was following a contempt of court petition filed by the Amaravati farmers. The HC asked for a comprehensive report on the status of works being undertaken in the capital region to be submitted at the earliest. It also asked the government to file a counter at the earliest, and the case was posted to July 12 for further hearing.
On the other hand, there have been several reports saying that the AP government has intentionally been negligent about the works that need to be done in Amaravati, as the government is completely against the idea of Amaravati being the sole capital of the state. The AP government has made it very clear that it continues to stick to its 3 Capital plan and that it would continue to stick to the same, with CM Jagan himself confirming the idea in his speech in the assembly.
