Guntur Kaaram marks the coming together of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram. The film released today and it is projected as a Sankranthi entertainer. Let us see what the film has to offer.
Story: Ramana (Mahesh Babu) and his Dad (Jayaram) are abandoned by his mother Vasundhara (Ramya Krishan) who is daughter of a top politician Vyra (Prakash Raj). He grows up to be an aggressive young man in Guntur. He falls in love with daughter (Sree Leela) of a lawyer (Murali Sharma) who works for Vyra family. What is the reason his Mother abandons him and his father is the crux of the story which needs to be watched on the silver screen
What about on screen performances?
Mahesh Babu is the main man and he delivers a winning performance. He has delivered a rounded performance in terms of action sequences, emotional blocks, energetic sequences and mass mannerisms. This is one of his most energetic performance in recent times. Sree Leela is gorgeous and does her part well. Her dances are feast to watch on the big screen.
Ramya Krishna, Prakash Raj did their parts really well. Easwari Rao, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Jayaram, Sunil, Mahesh, Meenakshi acted well as supporting cast members.
Special mention Ajay as Gelatin Babji, Bharamji, Ajay Gosh, Vennela Kishore did really well for generating comedy..
What about off-screen talents?
Trivikram focused only on delivering a commercial Sankranthi film for Mahesh Babu and left the novelty completely. Story by him is wafer thin and narration is flat. 2nd half has some story and emotions compared to 1st half but it doesn’t help the movie much.
Thaman’s songs are very much below par except for the Kurchi and Oh baby song. His BGM is bland and inconsistent. It doesn’t elevate the scenes or mood of the film. Editing could have been better and one doesn’t understand what importance does the role of Jagapathi babu has in the film. The movie would have been crisp if that part was edited completely.
What’s Hot?
Mahesh Babu’s performance
Sree Leela
Climax emotional scenes
What’s Not?
Routine commercial formula
Thaman’s lazy score
Flat narration
Verdict: Guntur Kaaram has wafer thin plot with flat narration. Mahesh Babu’s action is the only element that worked in favor of the movie. Some parts of comedy in both halves is okay, but the rest underwhelms. Trivikram is not at his best this time from Dialogues and emotions standpoint. Music/ BGM is a big let down except for the chartbuster Kurchi song.. overall its an average commercial film for this Sankranthi and its boxoffice power would heavily depend on other releases this season

First Half Report: First half of Guntur Karam has a simple plot with flat narration. It has Mahesh Babu’s mass characterization which is good on screen and some comedy scenes with Vennala Kishore, few good dialogues but not that of Trivikram’s standard. BGM could have been better. Needs a big second half to garner hit talk.
Final Report:
Guntur Kaaram has a thin plot with flat narration. Mahesh Babu’s action is the only element that worked in favor of the movie. 2nd half is little better than the first, overall its an average commercial fare. Music/ BGM is a big let down except for Kurchi song.
