Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Shaakuntalam, which hit theatres on April 14, is now struggling to register decent numbers at the box office. Released amid high expectations, the mythological drama film failed to impress the audience and ended as a big flop in the career of Samantha as well as director Gunasekhar.
It is said that the movie was made with a whopping budget of Rs 80 Crore. According to reports, the flick hadn’t even touched Rs 10 crore at the box office, not even recovering 10% of the budget. It is already evident that the movie is heading towards a disaster.
Gunasekhar expected that this would be another milestone movie in the Telugu film industry. However, Shaakuntalam saw a sharp decline in collections since Day 1. After this result, fans opine that the director would surely take a long time to bounce back from the losses incurred with the Samantha starrer.
