Andhra Bank, which was established in 1923 by freedom fighter Dr Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya, as a pride of Andhra Pradesh, is merged Union Bank recently. Officially, the logo of Andhra Bank will turn into Union Bank from Yesterday. In these 97 years, Andhra Bank raised to the level of a nationalized bank and helped several farmers and industrialists in building the society.
Andhra Bank holds the record of starting the first credit card service in India. The bank started this service in 1981 and the other banks followed the route. In 1980, Andhra Bank took the status of nationalized bank and by 2019, the bank has almost 2885 offices in 26 states and 3 union territories.
Dr Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya, who was born in Gundugolanu village, West Godavari, is quite close to Mahatma Gandhi and he even ran for the presidency of Indian National Congress opposite Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. People of Andhra Pradesh and employees of Andhra Bank share great bonding with this bank.
Even though the employees of Andhra Bank protested on the merger, the Government decided to move ahead, considering the current economic conditions. Remembering the glory and services of the bank to the people of India, lets say good bye to ‘Andhra Bank’.
