GHMC begins special sanitation drive to battle covid-19

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) began a special sanitation drive in different regions of the city on Sunday to battle the rising COVID-19 danger.

GHMC started clearing stagnant garbage on Sunday by deployed all its labourers and machinery for a special sanitation drive. The work is occurring at brisk pace the day after MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao gave four days to clear the accumulated wastage. For this, 18,000 sanitary workers were deployed in collecting, lifting and transferring garbage from different parts of the city since morning.

Right from the sanitary worker to deputy commissioner, the sanitation staff fanned out in all the 30 circles for removing garbage that had piled up over many days including colonies that was not attended for a long time.

Authorities carried out spraying activities in over 16,000 residential areas and also took up fogging in the evening by using additional fogging machines, dumpers and tippers in each zone. In places where Covid-19 cases were reported, spraying of sodium hypo-chlorite was done twice in the day.

GHMC also introduced 453 entomologists and sprayed sodium hypo-chlorite in 636 locations across the city. On Sunday, the staff utilised 900 litres of sodium hypo-chlorite, 840 sprayers, seven jet machines, 63 fogging machines and 302 small fogging machines.

On KTR’s orders, zone and circle-wise emergency teams were formed and spraying was performed at urban health centres, basti dispensaries, religious places and other crowdy areas.
