Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat were cremated with full military honours at the Brar Square crematorium. Their two daughters – Kritika and Tarini – performed the last rites. Other members of the family also join them in paying last respects.
As per protocol, the first CDS of India was accorded a 17-gun salute at his funeral, where 800 service personnel were in attendance.
Several political leaders such as Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Ambassador of France to India Emmanuel Lenain, and British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis and DMK leaders A Raja and Kanimozhi, among others, paid tributes to the CDS and his wife.
CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, along with his wife and 11 armed forces personnel, died in an Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
