Hyderabad: A sudden gas leakage from a chemical factory on Friday caused havoc among the locals at Maruthi Nagar in Golnaka, Amberpet.
As per a report from the sources, the area residents felt a pungent obnoxious smell and soon alarmed the police and the fire department. The smell was found to be from Deccan Chemical Factory. After receiving the news, both the fire department and GHMC soon rushed to the incident area. Later a fire engine and a team of the corporation too reached the spot.
Officials and media personnel stated, gas leaked occurred due to a faulty and damaged reactor at the chemical factory. The reactors at the factory contain acidic and chemical substances, which when face any discrepancy due to the dysfunctioning can bombard the substances together and trigger a lethal chemical reaction.
It is to be noted that the factory is surrounded by the residential colonies ad hence the dwellers sensed the gas leakage. After monitoring and bringing the issue under control, the GHMC officials seized the chemical unit. Currently Amberpet police are probing the case.
