In a significant development, veteran BJP leader and four-time Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa Friday announced that he won’t contest elections again. His second son BY Vijayendra, who is the state vice president of the BJP, will contest the upcoming general assembly elections from Yediyurappa’s stronghold Shikaripura in the Shimoga district.
“I request you, just like the way you have supported me. I request you all to support Vijayendra as well. We have to ensure he garners more than a lakh votes,” he appealed to the people of the constituency.
The former Chief Minister has won from the Shikaripura constituency eight times since 1983.
The 79-year-old leader also told the people of his constituency that he will visit once a week and appealed to them to strengthen BJP in the constituency.
On the other side, Yediyurappa also got relief from the Supreme Court after the apex court put on hold criminal proceedings in a corruption case against him.
