First visually challenged woman IAS officer takes charge

In a first of its kind in the country, Pranjal Patil, a visually challenged woman took charge as Sub Collector of Thiruvananthapuram today.

The 30-year old woman, had lost her vision, when she was six years old. She cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2016 and secured 773rd rank. She re-attempted in the next year and got 124th rank. During her training period, she has been appointed as Ernakulam Assistant Collector.

Patil, who hails from Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra, shared about her success with the media, saying, “…we should never be defeated and we should never give up because with our efforts all of us will get that one breakthrough which we want.”

Only due to the reason, that Patil is blind, she was rejected for a job in the Indian Railway Accounts Service. But, not losing the confidence, she struggled a lot to get on to the chair of of an IAS officer today. It shows the determination she has towards her goal. The life story of Pranjal Patel is now being lauded by the social media and are considering it as a great inspiration to the youth.
