Mumbai police on Monday registered an FIR against renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar for his remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The FIR was registered at the Mulund police station following a complaint lodged by lawyer Santosh Dubey. An FIR has been registered under Section 500 (Penalty for Defamation) of the IPC, an official said.
Last month, Santosh Dubey sent a legal notice to Javed Akhtar alleging that he had made false and defamatory remarks about the RSS in an interview with a news channel. He asked to apologize for those comments.
Akhtar, in his interview, made comments comparing the RSS with the Taliban. However, Santosh Dubey said that Akhtar had been given notice in the past to apologize, but he did not respond. He said an FIR has now been registered on his complaint.
