Cyclone Fani is forming over the Bay of Bengal with wind speeds up to 200 kmph. The Navy opined it as an “extremely severe cyclonic” storm. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Coastal Odisha are on high alert. The cyclone is expected to hit the Odisha by May 3.
Speaking to the media, HR Biswas, director of Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, said, “The speed of Cyclone Fani at the time of rainfall will be 175-185 kmph.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has alerted the concerned officials of National Crisis Management Committee to support the states at risk from Cyclone.
The Central government on Tuesday has released Rs 1,086 crore to four states, including Rs 340.87 crore to Odisha, as advance financial assistance for immediate relief and rescue measures.
